So like I’ve said before, I’m probably the biggest advocate for birth control around.  I love it.  Birth control would solve so many problems in our society if everyone would realize that it’s such an integral component of women’s reproductive healthcare.  I normally hate taking medicine of any sort (not very nurse like of me, i know), but I don’t mind taking these little gifts from heaven at all.  Besides the obvious reason for birth control pills, there are many other benefits to popping these pills.

  • The pill is great for straightening out hormonal imbalances.  They can help to make your period more regular, or more predictable, ease menstrual cramps, lighten heavy periods, and prevent menstrual related headaches or migraines.
  • BCP can get that embarassing acne under control.
  • They can help treat various gynecologic conditions such as PMS, endometriosis, and for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
  • Birth control pills have also been proven to lower the risk of endometrial and ovarian cancers.

Please keep in mind that you arent protected from sexually transmitted diseases by solely taking BCP…wrap it up!  Also, even with correct usage you aren’t fully protected from pregnancy with the pill.  The only 100%  way to prevent both diseases/infections and pregnancy is abstinence.

Remember ladies, keep a healthy demeanor both inside and out.
